Adams remembered at Jazz Festival
The late Charles (Bucky) Adams was remembered Saturday during a short-but-sweet tribute at the coda for the TD Halifax Jazz Festival.
Host Charles Hsuen paid homage to the Halifax musician, who died Friday at age 75 after a battle with cancer. The remembrance was delivered at a free, big-band performance at the festival tent by the waterfront. Saturday was the jazz fest’s last day.
A festival official said before Hsuen’s remarks that the tribute was to be “full of reverence for such a great contributor to the music community.”
Adams, whose saxophone playing graced the festival’s stages over the years, was a legend in N.S. jazz circles. He played trumpet when younger before switching to tenor sax.
He was comfortable playing easy-listening jazz, up-tempo rhythm-and-blues and straight blues.
Adams was also a composer. His self-produced CD, In A Lovin’ Way, includes nine tunes he wrote or co-wrote. He sang the title track.
