READER’S CORNER: Thank you, Riders
Unfortunately, the end of the Myra Road in Porters Lake attracts many acts of illegal dumping and general littering. This letter isn’t another rant about the unsavoury character of those responsible. It is a “thank you” to members of the Marine Riders ATV club for the cleanup effort they sponsored several weeks ago in the area, on Earth Day weekend. In the pouring rain, much of the garbage was removed, including broken barbecue frames, a water softener tank, tires, and even old roof shingles.
Many of our residents make efforts to keep the roadside and parking lots clean so we and others can enjoy our walks in the area. During periodic Marine Riders-sponsored rallies held throughout the year, when hundreds of people descend on our area to park their cars and take to the ATV trails, I have always been impressed by the organization of the event, and especially by the fact that the roadside and parking lot are cleaner when they leave than they were the day before they got there.
So, to the members who showed up on that rainy Sunday morning, thanks! Others would have noticed the results of the cleanup and appreciated it just as much as I did, but they may not have known who to thank.
