Summer provides us with an opportunity to enjoy the comforts of our property. However, when it comes to renovating, many homeowners do not consider this and opt for further interior improvements.

Exterior home renovations can include anything from landscaping projects to the construction of new outdoor storage facilities, driveway improvements, a sun room or patio project and all add to the esthetic appeal of the home, raise the value of the property and provide homeowners with additional space to enjoy the summer with friends and family.

While some exterior renovation projects can be simpler than others, it is still important to be mindful of the necessary building codes and environmental regulations in place. It is also important to recognize when a project is too large to handle alone and when you need to contact a qualified professional contractor.

Another consideration for exterior renovations includes understanding property or covenant restrictions on what can and cannot be done. You do not want to start a project and realize after you begin that you’ve encroached on the neighbour’s property and then have to spend even more time to move everything.

Planning is also very important. While some projects may be fairly simple it is important to properly plan them out before you start. With proper planning homeowners are able to allocate the necessary resources, both human and financial, and determine whether they need professional consultation or not.

Re-designing a project at the halfway point is much harder to do and may lead to a compromise on your initial intentions for your exterior renovation.

Summertime is meant to be spent outside and it is easy to do if a home is properly equipped. There is plenty of time to enjoy the comforts of the interior of your home throughout the year, so start planning.
