Halifax cops warn retailers about possible fraudster
UPDATED 8:25 p.m. Thursday
Halifax police are warning retailers about a possible fraudster trying to clean up.
Police have received several reports of a man contacting retail stores and saying that cleaning products bought there leaked on his clothes or car seats.
The man asks for compensation.
Police are investigating the incidents to determine if they were fraudulent.
Earlier this year, a man was charged in a similar incident after it was determined he was lying, police said.
Investigators are checking to see whether there is any connection between the recent incidents and what happened earlier.
Anyone who believes they have dealt with such a situation is asked to contact the Halifax Regional Police-RCMP integrated financial crime unit at 490-1985.
Retailers contacted by someone making such a claim should verify the incident before agreeing to a settlement, police said.
