Well-known community advocate Doug MacDonald is running for councillor of District 8 (Peninsula North) in Halifax Regional Municipality.

MacDonald has sat on the Board of Police Commissioners for Halifax Regional Municipality, was a founding member and executive director of Ward 5 Neighbourhood Centre and a past chairman of Halifax-Dartmouth Natal Day celebrations.

He has also sat on other boards and was a former chairman of the Northern Lights Lantern Festival.

According to his news release, MacDonald is particularly interested in a strong regional council, programs for seniors, children and families, transit, and a safe, viable downtown.

“My objectives include finding new development projects that fit with the needs of all constituents in HRM, as well as working collaboratively to make the council a better functioning body,” he said said in the release.

“The newly created Peninsula North District 8 includes dense business areas, established residential areas, and residents with distinct needs for support and programming.”
