Motorcycles crash; 2 injured
UPDATED 7:09 a.m. Wednesday
MAPLEWOOD, Lunenburg Co. — A man and a woman are in hospital after a crash involving two motorcycles Tuesday evening near New Germany.
The man and woman, who were each riding a motorcycle, were in the collision at about 7:15 p.m. in Maplewood on Newburne Road, just outside Barss Corner.
It's not known if the pair were travelling together.
The man has a severe injury to his left leg and was in critical condition at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, according to RCMP Cpl. Jamie Vacon, who was at the scene. He was later transported to the QEII Health Sciences Centre.
Vacon did not know the woman's condition, but he said she’s not as badly hurt. She was taken to South Shore Regional.
The woman was underneath the motorcycle when emergency crews arrived.
A spokeswoman with Emergency Health Services told The Chronicle Herald, however, that both people were in serious condition.
Another vehicle was damaged, though police didn't know before 9 p.m. how it may have been involved in the collision.
The driver of the dark blue Pontiac Grand Am was not injured, though the car was smashed on the front driver's side.
An accident reconstruction analyst was expected to arrive shortly after 8:30 p.m.
“It’s a mess down there,” one onlooker said.
A trail of debris of about 100 metres could be seen on the road.
“I just heard a crash, that was it,” said one man, who lives just down the road from the accident scene.
