An elderly Kings County man is in hospital after he wandered away from his home and spent the night outdoors in North Alton.

The 81-year-old man was found about a kilometre from his home at about 7:30 a.m. Friday, more than nine hours after he went missing.

Kings County RCMP say he was lying on the ground near a walking trail.

Police officers and a dog team began searching the immediate area around the man’s home when the call came in but couldn’t find him.

Valley Ground Search and Rescue, EMO and neighbouring search and rescue teams later joined in the search.
